    Del Potro, Verdasco collide in round of 32 Tournament seeds Juan Martin Del Potro and Fernando Verdasco are set to battle for a round of 16 berth at the BNP Paribas Open. They are joined in third-round action by fifth seed David Ferrer, who takes on Denis Istomin.

    World No. 9 Juan Martin Del Potro leads 19th seed Fernando Verdasco 3-1 in the head-to-head series. The players are meeting for the first time since splitting a pair of matches in 2011.

    Del Potro dismissed qualifier Marinko Matosevic in the opening round, 7-5, 6-2. The Argentine looks to make a third consecutive round of 16 in Indian Wells.

    Verdasco defeated American Ryan Sweeting in the opening round, 6-2, 6-2. The 28-year-old will attempt to reach his first BNP Paribas Open round of 16 since 2009.

    (5) David Ferrer vs. Denis Istomin

    World No. 5 David Ferrer holds a 1-0 lifetime edge against third-round opponent Denis Istomin. Tuesday signals their first meeting since 2010.

    Ferrer took out Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the second round, 6-2, 6-2. The veteran is bidding for his 20th match victory of the season.

    Istomin held on to upset 31st seed Juan Ignacio Chela in round two. The 25-year-old remains on course to reach his first round of 16 at the tournament.
