• Levine, Sock and Haase in day one action in Indian Wells

    3/8/12 3:15 PM | Cheryl Murray
Levine, Sock and Haase in day one action in Indian Wells Jesse Levine, Jack Sock and Dutchman Robin Haase will be featured on the first day of play at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

    Jesse Levine vs. Albert Ramos

This could be a good opportunity for Spain’s Albert Ramos. American Jesse Levine has yet to win a single tour match in 2012 in 5 tournament attempts. His single success in the season so far came at the Dallas Challenger, where he defeated Steve Darcis in the final.

Ramos is having the best season of his career. The Spaniard is more at home on clay courts, evidenced by a run to the semifinals in Sao Paulo during the Golden Swing. But Ramos had a good hard court result this year as well. The Spaniard made the quarters in Doha before going out to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Prediction – Ramos in straight sets.

    Jack Sock vs. Santiago Giraldo

American Jack Sock is still trying to break into the main tour. The teenager from Nebraska is currently ranked 334 in the world and hasn’t won a tour match yet this year, despite securing wildcards in San Jose and Memphis. Sock hasn’t even made much of a splash on the Challenger circuit. He has found most of his success on the Futures tour.

Santiago Giraldo is going to be a tough opponent for Sock to overcome. The Colombian is ranked 58 in the world with a 9-6 record on the season. Giraldo is at his best on clay, but he should be able to handle Sock even on a hard court.

    Robin Haase vs. Pablo Andujar

This match will feature the contrasting style of big-serving Robin Haase of the Netherlands and clay court specialist Pablo Andujar of Spain.

Andujar has the slight ranking edge over Haase, sitting 10 spots higher than the Dutchman at No. 45 in the world. But the hard courts should slightly favor Haase, even though the courts at Indian Wells are relatively slow.

Andjuar’s success has been limited this season, with his 3 match wins coming just recently on the clay courts of South America. Haase has had similar difficulties, with just 3 match wins, but his success came indoors in Zagreb.

Predicition – Haase for the win.
