Acapulco - Ferrer, Verdasco collide in title match World No. 6 David Ferrer will be looking to win a third consecutive title at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, as he faces fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco. The seeds are scheduled to contest their career meeting late Saturday.

World No. 6 David Ferrer trails world No. 27 Fernando Verdasco 6-7 entering into Saturday’s championship final. Verdasco hods a 6-3 edge in clay-court matches contested.

Ferrer came through his semifinal match against Santiago Giraldo, 7-5, 6-4. The 29-year-old is bidding for his third title this season, after sealing championship-winning runs in Auckland and Buenos Aires.

"Against Fernando, I of course expect a difficult match," Ferrer said. "We know each other really well, and in a final, both players want to give everything out there and win the title."

With a victory Saturday night, he will extend his title tally to 14.

Verdasco dismissed Stanislas Wawrinka in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-3. The 28-year-old will be making his first final appearance since summer 2011.

"This has been an amazing week, I am very happy with my results up to now," said Verdasco.

"There is no doubt that tomorrow I will give my everything to win both singles and doubles. But win or lose, this week has been a great result for me. I love this tournament and the people here and I will keep coming back."

The Madrid native looks to add title number six to his career total.

Prediction: Should be close, with a more consistent Ferrer winning in three sets.
