Federer, Del Potro take the court in Dubai first round Roger Federer and Juan Martin Del Potro will be in action on Tuesday in Dubai as the first round heats up.

Roger Federer (2) vs. Michael Llodra

World No. 3 Roger Federer is one of the red-hot players on tour right now. The Swiss champion comes into Dubai off a title at the Rotterdam indoor event, where he dismantled Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro.

The field in Dubai is more difficult than Rotterdam, but Federer has been playing well. His first opponent will be Frenchman Michael Llodra. The two men have met just once, back on the hard courts of Toronto in 2010, with Federer winning in straight sets.

Llodra has a big first serve and an unconventional serve-and-volley style. He has the game to push Federer to a tiebreaker in at least one set, but Federer should seal this up in straights.

Juan Martin Del Potro (8) vs. Alexandr Dolgopolov

Juan Martin Del Potro has probably the most difficult first-round matchup of any of the seeds in Dubai. The Argentine drew world No. 20 Alexandr Dolgopolov, who made the finals in Brisbane already in 2012.

The good news for Del Potro is that Dolgopolov isn’t in good form at the moment. The Ukrainian lost in the first round in Rotterdam at the hands of Lukasz Kubot and the second round in Marseille to Michael Llodra.

Del Potro is playing well himself right now. The Argentine made the finals in Rotterdam, where he lost to Federer and he just won the title in Marseille. The biggest obstacle for Del Potro will be fatigue, as this will be his third tournament in as many weeks.

Prediction – Despite the possibility of match weariness, Del Potro should pull through this one in straight sets.
