  • Defending champ Djokovic back in action in Dubai

    2/28/12 10:36 PM | Cheryl Murray
Defending champ Djokovic back in action in Dubai Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic will take on the Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky in a full day of tennis on Wednesday. Andy Murray will also take the court.

Novak Djokovic (1) vs. Sergiy Stakhovsky

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic is going for his fourth consecutive Dubai title this week. His second-round opponent will be Sergiy Stakhovsky, ranked 74th in the world.

Stakhovsky will have his work cut out for him in this encounter. Djokovic has been the most dominant player of the last year with four of the last five Grand Slam titles on his CV. Worse for the Ukrainian though is his own form of late. Stakhovsky has not managed to win more than a match at time in any tournament this year so far.

Prediction – This should be another routine win for Djokovic.

Andy Murray (3) vs. Marco Chiudinelli

Scotland’s Andy Murray had a difficult time in his opening match against Michael Berrer. The world No. 4 later revealed that he was ill and hadn’t been feeling at all well on court.

If Murray is well enough to play, he will take on Switzerland’s Marco Chiudinelli, who sits at No. 185 in the world. Chiudinelli’s surprise first round win over Nikolay Davydenko marked his first ATP tour win of the entire year; prior to this week, Chiudinelli was 0-3.

Prediction – The outcome of this match will hinge entirely on the health of Andy Murray. If the Scot is feeling better, he should win easily. If he is still ill, Chiudinelli could well find himself moving on again.
