Top seed Juan Monaco looks to capture his fourth ATP World Tour title, as he faces fellow Argentine Carlos Berlocq on Sunday. The players are set to contest their fifth career meeting for the VTR Open championship.
World No. 29 Juan Monaco holds a 5-0 series advantage over first-time finalist Carlos Berlocq. Sunday signals their fourth clay-court meeting.
Monaco advanced to his 12th ATP World Tour final after beating Jeremy Chardy in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. The 27-year-old is bidding for his first championship title since 2007, when he won a trio of clay-court crowns.
He enters Sunday's match with a 3-8 record in tour-level finals.
Berlocq made his maiden tour-level final by virtue of his 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 ousting of 2nd seed Juan Ignacio Chela. He has taken only one set from Monaco through five matches played.
Prediction: Could be closer than the head-to-head indicates, as Monaco has struggled during finals since 2007. The top seed in three sets.
