Former world No. 5 Fernando Gonzalez will be in first-round action on Tuesday, set to face Spain’s Pere Riba. The hometown veteran is bidding for a fifth championship victory at the tournament this week.
(WC) Fernando Gonzalez vs. Pere Riba
Wildcard Fernando Gonzalez is set to make his 2012 debut Tuesday evening. The 31-year-old returns to the ATP World Tour for the first time since summer 2011. Gonzalez is four-time a champion in Vina del Mar, having taken home top prize in 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2009.
World No. 92 Pere Riba is 1-2 for the season following a second-round retirement at the Australian Open. The 23-year-old Spaniard is bidding for his second victory in Vina del Mar.
(5) Albert Montanes vs. (Q) Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo
Fifth seed Albert Montanes leads qualifier Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-2 in the series. The compatriots last met at the 2011 French Open, where Montanes scored a second-round victory in four sets.
Montanes will attempt to regroup after suffering a first-round defeat to Riba in Melbourne. The 31-year-old is bidding for his first ATP World Tour win of the season.
Ramirez Hidalgo returns to the ATP World Tour for the first time since July 2011. The veteran will be making his eighth main-draw appearance in Chile, where he reached the final four in 2006.

Didn't know you were a Gonzalez fan, Ricky.
I miss some of the "old" guys, from Roger's generation, that played attacking tennis.

Great player, great forehand but injury plagued.
Who can forget the 2007 AO, played incredibly well. Great matches.
