  • Gasquet takes on familiar foe Ferrer

    1/22/12 9:22 PM | Cheryl Murray
Gasquet takes on familiar foe Ferrer France’s Richard Gasquet will try to get his first win over David Ferrer since 2008 when the two men meet in the fourth round at the Australian Open.

Richard Gasquet has quietly been making his way through the men’s draw. The Frenchman dismantled No. 9 seed Janko Tipsarevic in the third round to set up this encounter with David Ferrer. The No. 17 seed has been slowly making his way back up the ranks after a disappointing 2010 season.

David Ferrer had one of the best seasons of his career in 2011 and he went into the Australian Open with a title to his name in 2012 already (Auckland).

Ferrer’s game is a particular problem for Gasquet. The Spaniard, who sits at No. 5 in the world, plays grinding, patient tennis and he displays notable speed around the court. Gasquet is more of a finesse player who relies on his lovely one-handed backhand to win tennis matches.

The problem for the Frenchman is that Ferrer’s brand of tennis often lures him into making errors and Gasquet’s serve isn’t strong enough to hold off the Spaniard’s world-class return game.

    Prediction – Ferrer in 4.

Ferrer looking SO sharp. Ha, ha Nole's turn to be knackered in the semis this year?
Oh the French, the French, so talented, so flaky :( Wish us Brits had half their talent.
