Former US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro will take on Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber for a quarterfinal berth in Melbourne.
Philipp Kohlschreiber is ranked 41st in the world, far below Juan Martin Del Potro’s No. 11 ranking, but the German is a dangerous opponent.
Del Potro hasn’t faced a true threat at this tournament so far. He lost the first set in his opening round match to Adrian Mannarino, but that was down more to the Argentine’s rust. He rolled through his next two matches in straight sets.
Kohlshreiber and Del Potro have played four times; Del Potro won all four encounters, but their two most recent matches (in 2011) were close affairs.
Kohlschreiber had some trouble getting past Juan Monaco in the first round, with that match going five sets, but his second and third-round wins were routine.
The way Del Potro is striking the ball, he should advance, but Kohlschreiber could make it interesting and might even get a set in the process. Prediction – Del Potro in 4.

DelPo starting to play back to form, really. I saw him just ... unload a couple of those FHs of his as passing shots; Kohlschreiber didn't even have a chance to get at them, they went by so fast.
Still can't believe Rafa, Roger, and DelPo are all in the same half of the draw.

Meanwhile Delpot cruises, or should I say "crushes." You gotta play like Baggy did to beat Juan and Khols didn't get it!
