  • Group A - Djokovic, Ferrer headline evening session

    11/23/11 2:17 AM | Kelli DeMario
Group A - Djokovic, Ferrer headline evening session World No. 1 Novak Djokovic looks to extend his Finals record to 2-0, as he faces world No. 5 David Ferrer late Wednesday. The players will be contesting their 11th career meeting.

Top seed Novak Djokovic leads fifth seed David Ferrer 6-4 in the head-to-head series. The Serbian has won four of the last five meetings, which includes a quarterfinal match at the 2011 Masters 1000 Madrid.

Djokovic is 5-1 ahead of Ferrer on hard courts.

The world No. 1 was pushed in his opener against Tomas Berdych, having saved match point late in the contest. The 24-year-old rallied to record his 70th match win of the season, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3).

Ferrer defeated a wounded Andy Murray in his first match, 6-4, 7-5. The 29-year-old veteran aims to go 2-0 for the first time since 2007.

    Prediction: Djokovic in straight sets.

I don't think any Spanish fan expected to be cheering for the other Spaniard in the semis...unpredictable stuff, isn't it :) ...nobody knows what to expect anymore...things turn around so quickly...great play by Ferrer though...and rather anemic play by Novak...

sick stuff, Ferru

Congrats to Ferrer, well done! Beating the no.1 and no.3 players here, wow. I don't know whether he can handle Berdych. Just imagine who he has to beat to reach the final, either Tsonga or Rafa, if he tops his group. We may have a repeat of TMC 2007 final!
