Roger Federer will contest his Paris Masters opener on Wednesday. Up first for Federer is French wild card Adrian Mannarino.
Roger Federer will be back in action three days after winning the Basel title when he takes the court on Wednesday at the BNP Paribas Masters.
Federer's tournament opener will come in the form of a second career meeting with Adrian Mannarino. Their only previous meeting came earlier this year in round two at Wimbledon, where Federer dominated 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.
A heavy underdog once again, Mannarino will at least have home-court advantage for this second-round matchup. The 85th-ranked Frenchman has not been great in 2011, but he seems to be rounding into form. Mannarino, who got a wild card into this event, reached the St. Petersburg quarterfinals two weeks ago and destroyed Dmitry Tursunov 6-2, 6-2 on Monday.
Federer is also heating up as he plays the final tournament of the regular season prior to the World Tour Finals. The fourth-ranked Swiss captured his second consecutive Basel title last weekend, dropping just one set in the process before hammering Kei Nishikori in the final. Federer is 54-12 for the season as he begins his quest to reach the Paris title match for the first time in his career.
A relatively slow hard court and the French crowd could be of slight help for Mannarino, but there is no way it will be enough. Count on Federer rolling in straight sets.

You have to feel some sympathy for Mannarino having to play Federer on the centre court in front of his home crowd. A mere practice session for Roger.

Sigh............Mannarino can't afford a professional haidresser's cut.................his locks look like they were chopped using kitchen scissors..................

What is the record time for winning a match in straight sets? Whatever it is Federer is about to break it. lol

Roger wins the 1st set in under 25 minutes (24:53). Not bad if you ask me.
As I expected I have nothing to worry about.

I know it's against numero 85 but Fed's looking very, very sharp and moving like greased lightning.

Ricky Dimon, why didn't you says it was Rogie's 5th Basel title, rather than 2nd consecutive., sounds so much better! Great work Roge!

I couldnot watch the match. Tried to sneak in a set, by leaving work a bit earlier, but TMF beat me to it ;-). Last game I could just see the final point....So obviously he is #1 contender.
