Novak Djokovic will reportedly give it a go at the Paris Masters. Djokovic is set to go up against Ivan Dodig.
Four days after suffering an injury-plagued loss to Kei Nishikori in Basel, Novak Djokovic will return to action for round two of the BNP Paribas Masters on Wednesday. Djokovic's status had been in doubt for the last tournament of the season prior to the World Tour Finals, but he is reportedly good to go.
Up first for the world No. 1 is a third career meeting with Ivan Dodig. Djokovic has won both of their previous encounters on hard courts; 6-1, 6-4 at the 2008 Marseille event and 7-5, 6-7(8), 6-0, 6-2 earlier this year at the Australian Open.
Dodig is a much different player now as he wraps up the best campaign of his pro career. The late-blooming Croat has earned 26 of his 36 career ATP match victories this season, which includes a title in Zagreb and a runner-up finish in 's-Hertogenbosch. Dodig, who has been a giant-killer before (Rafael Nadal at the Montreal Masters), opened in Paris with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Fabio Fognini on Tuesday.
Djokovic is only vulnerable right now due to a long post-U.S. Open layoff and physical issues. His play, of course, has produced one of the best seasons of all time. The top-ranked Serb is 67-4 for the year, with only one loss unrelated to injury (semifinals of the French Open to Roger Federer).
If Djokovic is 100 percent, he should take this with relative ease. Dodig is in decent form and is not at all afraid of the big stage, but he will need some help from his opponent in order to score an upset.
