No. 5 seed Tomas Berdych will take on Fernando Verdasco in his first match at the Paris Masters. Also in action will be Marcel Granollers.
Tomas Berdych vs. Fernando Verdasco
The Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych and Fernando Verdasco of Spain met just a few weeks ago in Beijing. Berdych gave Verdasco a 6-1, 6-0 beating and comes into this match as the clear favorite. Berdych holds an overall 8-4 record over the Spaniard.
This meeting could be more interesting than recent history suggests though. Verdasco is one of the more streaky players on tour and is capable of losing dreadfully and also of creating impressive upsets. The Spaniard played well against Marin Cilic on Monday for the upset win.
Prediction – Berdych in 3.
Marcel Granollers vs. Jeremy Chardy
Spain’s Marcel Granollers was the surprise winner in Valencia last week. The Spaniard is mostly known as a clay-courter, but his hard court title has boosted his ranking up to No. 28 in the world. Chardy sits at 110 in the world, but he’ll have the benefit of playing at home and against a Granollers who is sure to have some fatigue from playing all week last week.
Prediction – Chardy in 3.
