Roger Federer will take on friend and Davis Cup teammate Stanislas Wawrinka in front of the Swiss crowd on semifinal Saturday in Basel.
The odds are long on a Stanislas Wawrinka victory against Roger Federer. In 10 tries, Wawrinka has managed to beat his countryman one time. It was on the red clay of Monte Carlo back in 2009. Since that match, Federer has amassed 7 consecutive wins, dropping just one set along the way.
Until his quarterfinal match against Andy Roddick, Federer’s form was rusty this week. But his familiarity with the American seemed to awaken the world No. 4.
Given Federer’s record against Wawrinka and the fact that his serve is stronger, expect another win for Federer and another showing in the Basel final.

That comment was too funny! I agree and will gladly skip this match, since the outcome is a fargone conclusion.

I remember vividly when Wawrinka beat Federer at Monte Carlo in 2009. Seeing how he played then, I fully expected him to push Federer and beat him every now and then since that match. What has happened instead is that Federer has just breezed through every match since then. Maybe playing in Switzerland might make Wawrinka play better, who knows.

Well in wawa defence it can be said that there are others who hardly ever win a match against Fed. So just because he is suisse is not him being like the spanish armada who drop down like flies except when he chooses to give them ATP250 succes. Or the Serbs who are really makin a mockery of atp tennis when facing Djoker. Djoker even gives a set or breakers to give ahint ofbattle.
No I'm happy to see this match because there are two onehand bh's on court a deligth to watch and (regrettfully) veryrare.
And if you are a tennisreporter making money by a tennissite it is very strange not to watch a match with thge quality portrayed on court today.

The one handed backhand aspect works for style points, but the quality of the matches between these two in recent times has been quite blah. The Serbian capitualtion of recent times hasn't been any worse than Wawrinka against Fed; in fact, I'd probably say they've put on a better show.
I do agree that Troicki tends to fold against Djokovic (dunno about Tipsarevic), but between Ferrer and Verdasco, you have two big Spanish players who wouldn't just give in to Nadal.

You should always watch when fed and wara play, like when ferrer plays nadal or taby or one of the spanish amada like sienna says...they drops down like flies, but not the suisse no.2. He always fights, and that's pride for stan.
