World No. 59 Marcos Baghdatis kicked off his Basel bid with a three-set ousting of 8th seed Viktor Troicki. The Cypriot fell behind a set in the match, but rallied to score a victory in two hours and 43 minutes, 4-6, 7-6(8), 6-2.
He is bidding for his seventh ATP World Tour quarterfinal of the season.
World No. 327 Michael Lammer secured his first tour-level win in 2011, having upset Mikhail Youzhny in the opening round. The 29-year-old Swiss looks to earn consecutive victories for the first time in Basel.
(Q) Lukasz Kubot vs. (Q) Tobias Kamke
World No. 64 Lukasz Kubot is tied at 1-1 lifetime against world No. 96 Tobias Kamke. Wednesday signals their first tour-level meeting.
Kubot is 16-16 for the 2011 season. The veteran will attempt to make his first quarterfinal since July, when he reached the final four in Stuttgart.
Kamke enters into the tournament with a 15-22 record. The German remains on track to make his second consecutive quarterfinal, having reached the same stage in Stockholm.
