• Tipsarevic takes on Cilic for St. Petersburg title

    10/30/11 3:16 AM | Kelli DeMario
Tipsarevic takes on Cilic for St. Petersburg title World No. 13 Janko Tipsarevic looks to win his second title in as many weeks, as he takes to the court against fellow seed Marin Cilic. The players are set to contest their career meeting on Sunday.

Second seed Janko Tipsarevic trails championship final opponent Marin Cilic 5-1 in the series. The two last met earlier this season in Miami, where the Serbian posted his first victory against the Croatian.

Tipsarevic made his second consecutive championship final after defeating 7th seed Alex Bogomolov Jr., 6-2, 6-1. The 27-year-old is bidding for his third title this year, having taken home top prize in Kuala Lumpur and Moscow.

Cilic advanced to the final by virtue of his 6-3, 6-4 ousting of former champion Mikhail Youzhny. The 23-year-old looks to win his first title of the season, following a trio of runner-up finishes in Marseille, Umag and Beijing.

Prediction: Cilic will be facing a different Tipsarevic than he has in past matches. Should be close - Tisparevic in three.

Yes Cilic wins the first set. Come on no let up please, one more set please.

Two giants in action today. Delpo takes so long to hold serve for the very first game of the match! Why must the two matches be on about the same time? Hard time watching both.

O Oh, one set all now. Cilic please wake up, fight!

Yes Marin wins his first title this year! Yes!! Well done, good boy! So happy for him. Tipsy has already won two this year so I guess it's OK for him with this loss. Congrats to Marin!

PS. you know what ed, I'm also watching badminton French Open final on tv. My favorite Lee Chong Wei, the no.1 player in the world, is playing, on his way to winning the title. Yeah that's multi tasking! Tsonga and Delpo now one set apiece. Watching the victory ceremony of St Petersburg too!

Well done Cilic. I hope he can make it to the top 10 next here. I enjoy watching him play. his groundstrokes and service motion are very fluid, and he moves darn well for a big guy. His main problem is that shot selection can be a bit suspect sometimes but if he sorts it out, he should be able to achieve even better results in the future.

Cant match that! Good for Cilic. Tippy seemed in a bad mood all week - he was very aggressive and kept having arguments with the umpires.

Watching JMDP and Tsonga reminded of a description I read that Potty moved around as if he had just walked across the Arizona desert and back again. Well they were both doing it. Hysterical.

Yes agree with you tj. When his game is on it's a joy to watch. He moves so well for a big guy. I really wish that he can realize his full potential soon and together with Delpo, provide some new challenges to the top four guys. Both are young and time is on their side.

Excellent to see Cilic and Tsonga won :)
