World No. 13 Janko Tipsarevic is tied at 1-1 lifetime against semifinal opponent Alex Bogomolov Jr. Saturday marks their first meeting since 2004.
Tipsarevic advanced to the semifinal after rallying to defeat Potito Starace in three sets. The 27-year-old Serbian is bidding for his fifth ATP World Tour final of the season.
Bogomolov dismissed qualifier Dusan Lajovic in the quarterfinal, 6-2, 6-1. The American looks to reach his first career ATP World Tour championship final.
Prediction: Tipsarevic in straight sets.
(4) Marin Cilic vs. (5) Mikhail Youzhny
Fourth seed Marin Cilic trails fifth seed Mikhail Youzhny 5-1 in the series. The two last met earlier this season in Hamburg, where the Russian posted a victory in three sets.
Cilic made the final four following his three-set success against Andreas Seppi. The Croatian dropped the opening set, but recovered to secure the win in three, 4-6, 7-6(8), 6-4. He remains on track to make his fourth final of the season.
Youzhny downed Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-3. The veteran Russian is aiming to make his fourth St. Petersburg final, having booked a finals berth in 2002, 2004 (champion) and 2010.
Prediction: Youzhny in three sets.
