(2) Janko Tipsarevic vs. Michael Berrer
World No. 13 Janko Tipsarevic holds a narrow 3-2 series lead against round of 16 opponent Michael Berrer. The players last clashed this summer in Washington, where the second seed recorded a straight-set victory.
Tipsarevic won his first-round match against veteran Olivier Rochus in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. The 27-year-old Serbian looks to secure his 50th victory of the season late Thursday.
Berrer knocked out defending champion Mikhail Kukushkin in the opening round, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. The 31-year-old German is bidding for his second consecutive quarterfinal berth.
(4) Marin Cilic vs. Somdev Devvarman
Fourth seed Marin Cilic will attempt to break a 1-1 series tie with Somdev Devvarman on Thursday. The two split a pair of hard-court meetings in 2009.
Cilic came through his first round against qualifier Sergei Bubka in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(1). The 23-year-old remains on track to reach his 10th quarterfinal of the season.
Devvarman dismissed veteran Karol Beck in the opening round, 6-2, 6-3. The world No. 84 looks to make his first quarter since July, when he finished among the last eight in Atlanta.
