(2) Janko Tipsarevic vs. Olivier Rochus
World No. 13 Janko Tipsarevic trails veteran Olivier Rochus 3-4 in the series. The players are meeting for the first time since the 2010 US Open, where the Serbian scored a victory in four sets. Wednesday marks their 6th contest on hard-court.
Tipsarevic enters into St. Petersburg with momentum, having defeated compatriot Viktor Troicki for the Kremlin Cup title. The two-time St. Petersburg quarterfinalist is bidding for his 49th win of the season.
Rochus looks to rebound after suffering a first-round loss to James Blake in Stockholm. The 30-year-old veteran is a modest 13-15 for the season.
(5) Mikhail Youzhny vs. Julien Benneteau
Fifth seed Mikhail Youzhny holds a 3-1 series advantage over Julien Bennteau. The two are meeting for the first time in more than two years.
The 29-year-old Russian recorded his 25th match win on Monday, when he defeated Sergiy Stakhovsky in straight sets. He is a former champion in St. Petersburg, having won the title in 2004.
The 55th-ranked Bennteau defeated Pere Riba in the opening round, 6-2, 6-1. The veteran Frenchman looks to win consecutive matches for the first time since the US Open.
