Top seed Janko Tipsarevic will be in second-round action at the Kremlin Cup, set to square off against Igor Kunitsyn. Fellow seed Alexandr Dogopolov is also in action, as he takes to the court with qualifier Jeremy Chardy.
(1) Janko Tipsarevic vs. Igor Kunitsyn
World No. 14 Janko Tipsarevic looks to break a 2-2 series tie with Igor Kunitsyn on Thursday. The players last met at the 2010 tournament in St. Petersburg, where the top seed scored a victory in straight sets.
Tipsarevic will attempt to regroup after suffering first-round losses in Tokyo and Shanghai. The 27-year-old is 44-22 for the season, aided by a title-winning run in Kuala Lumpur. He is a former finalist at the Kremlin Cup, having finished runner-up in 2009.
Kunitsyn held on to defeat fellow Russian Andrey Kuznetsov in the first round, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. The veteran is bidding for his 17th tour-level victory of the season.
(3) Alexandr Dolgopolov vs. (Q) Jeremy Chardy
World No. 17 Alexandr Dolgopolov trails qualifier Jeremy Chardy 1-0 in the series, having lost their only previous meeting at the 2010 Masters 1000 Shanghai.
Dolgopolov returns to action following a quarterfinal finish at the Rolex Masters last week. The 22-year-old advanced to the 2010 Moscow quarterfinals, where he fell to Marcos Baghdatis in straight sets.
Chardy dismissed veteran Potito Starace in the first round, 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(2). The 24-year-old Frenchman, ranked world No. 133, remains on track to win his eighth tour-level match in 2011.
