(2) Viktor Troicki vs. Pere Riba
World No. 16 Viktor Troicki looks to regroup after suffering consecutive first-round losses in Tokyo and Shanghai. The 25-year-old is 36-23 for the season, with semifinal or better berths earned in three hard-court tournaments. He will be defending championship points this week, having downed Marcos Baghdatis for the 2010 title.
World No. 78 Pere Riba held on to defeat Andreas Haider-Maurer in the opening round, 6-2, 6-7(1), 6-3. The 23-year-old Spaniard is bidding for his 11th Tour-level victory this season.
(4) Nikolay Davydenko vs. (WC) Teymuraz Gabashvili
World No. 38 Nikolay Davydenko leads second-round opponent Teymuraz Gabashvili 1-0 in the series, having won their only previous meeting in 2006.
The 30-year-old veteran will attempt to rebound following a first-round exit in Beijing. He is a modest 22-21 for the 2011 season. He is three-times a title winner in Moscow, with championship runs completed in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
Wildcard Gabashvili dismissed Karol Beck in the first round, 6-2, 6-4. He is bidding for consecutive wins for the first time since June.
