Philipp Petzschner and Tommy Haas will be in action at the If Stockholm Open on Monday. They are set for respective meetings with Lukasz Kubot and Somdev Devvarman.
Philipp Petzschner vs. Lukasz Kubot
Petzschner and Kubot will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers when they meet in round one of the If Stockholm Open on Monday. Their only previous encounter did not disappoint, with Petzschner prevailing 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 last season at Wimbledon.
Ranked three spots behind Kubot at 64th in the world, Petzschner is 2-3 in ATP main draws dating back to the U.S. Open and he got blown out by Matthew Ebden in Shanghai qualifying. Kubot compiled a 1-3 record during the Asian swing but was competitive in every match. Look for the Pole to dismiss Petzschner in three tight sets.
(WC) Tommy Haas vs. Somdev Devvarman
Heading into first-round action in Stockholm on Monday, Haas' injury-plagued season has been disappointing from start to finish. The 33-year-old German has played just 13 ATP main-draw matches, winning four. He is down at No. 290 in the world but is coming off his most encouraging result of the year, a third-round showing at the U.S. Open.
Devvarman's 2011 campaign began with a bang, highlighted by a runner-up finish in Johannesburg and a trip to the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters. Dating back to a first-round qualifying loss in Cincinnati, however, the 84th-ranked Italian has won just a single match in seven tries. Barring a turnaround in Devvarman's current form, Haas in three sets is the pick.
