Kei Nishikori will take on Colombian Santiago Giraldo for the opportunity to advance to the Shanghai quarterfinals.
World No. 47 (Kei Nishikori) will take on world No. 48 (Santiago Giraldo) in what will be a fantastic opportunity to advance to the weekend of a Masters event.
Giraldo, a Colombian who prefers playing on clay, has had surprisingly good results this fall on Asian hard courts. Counting Shanghai, he’s already won five matches in the past few weeks, including a quarterfinal showing in Tokyo last week. He took out Ivan Dodig and upset Jurgen Melzer en route to the Shanghai round of 16.
Nishikori’s results haven’t been as steady as Giraldo’s, but the Japanese man secured the win of his career over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Wednesday.
Nishikori is sure to have the crowd’s support, but recent form suggests that Giraldo will have the slight edge going into this match.
Prediction – Giraldo in 3.

Isee Brad Gilbert's strategy is rubbing off on Nishikori.

we definitely would have had a "words that come to mind when you see Santiago Giraldo in a hard-court Masters quarterfinal" contest if he had won this

Congrats to Nishikori for the win, well done, into the QF of a Masters for the first time I believe. It should be a good one, Nishikori vs Dolgo.
