  • Tsonga begins Shanghai bid against Nishikori

    10/12/11 1:45 AM | Cheryl Murray
Tsonga begins Shanghai bid against Nishikori Red hot Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will take on Japanese youngster Kei Nishikori as the Frenchman tries to secure a spot in the World Tour Finals in London.

Besides Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga might just be in the best form on the men’s tour. The world No. 8 won the event in Metz and made the semifinals last week in Beijing, where he lost to big-hitting Tomas Berdych.

Tsonga is close to securing his spot at the year-end championship in London, which hosts the top 8 players in the world. A good showing in Shanghai and at the Paris-Bercy Masters would seal his spot.

Standing in his way on Wednesday is Kei Nishikori, who recently picked up Brad Gilbert as a coach and is ranked 47th in the world. The Japanese man had a good showing in Kuala Lumpur, but he lost in the first round at his home tournament in Tokyo last week at the hands of David Ferrer.

Prediction – Tsonga should have this one wrapped up pretty easily.
