Eighth seed Gilles Simon will kick off his effort in Shanghai with a second-round match against veteran Albert Montanes. Joining the Frenchman in second-round action is 13th seed Stanislas Wawrinka, who faces qualifier Donald Young.

World No. 12 Gilles Simon holds a narrow 3-2 series lead over Albert Montanes. Tuesday signals their first meeting on hard-court.
Simon is 38-23 for the season, aided by a recent semifinal run in Bangkok. The Frenchman looks to recover after failing to win a match in Beijing. He is bidding for his first win in Shanghai since 2009.
Montanes held on to win his first-round match over Mikhail Kukushkin in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(5). The 30-year-old Spaniard will attempt to reach his first round of 16 in Shanghai.
(13) Stanislas Wawrinka vs. (Q) Donald Young
World No. 19 Stanislas Wawrinka looks to level the series with qualifier Donald Young on Tuesday. The Swiss trails 1-0 after losing their only previous encounter at the 2011 US Open.
Wawrinka rallied to oust Juan Monaco in the first round, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. The 26-year-old remains on course to win his 32nd match of the season.
Young defeated hometown wildcard Mao-Xin Gong in the opening round, 6-1, 6-4. The 22-year-old American aims to record his 20th tour-level victory this season.
