World No. 10 Tomas Berdych holds a 7-4 series edge against quarterfinal opponent Fernando Verdasco. The two last met at the 2011 Australian Open, where the Czech earned a victory in straight sets. Berdych leads 5-1 on hard-court.

Berdych came through the round of 16 with little difficulty, having downed qualifier Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets. The 26-year-old needed just 63 minutes to complete the match, 6-2, 6-0. He is bidding for his seventh semifinal berth of the season.

Verdasco survived a challenging round of 16, where he rallied to oust qualifier Flavio Cipolla in three sets. After dropping the opening set, the Spaniard fought back to end the match in an hour and 44 minutes, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. Verdasco looks to make his first hard-court semi since San Jose.

    Prediction: Berdych in straight sets.

World No. 26 Ivan Ljubicic has a 7-1 series advantage over Mikhail Youzhny entering into the quarterfinal. Friday signals their 5th meeting on hard-court.

Ljubicic advanced to the final eight by virtue of his three-set victory against Florian Mayer. The 32-year-old veteran has tallied 27 aces through two rounds of play. He remains on course to reach his third hard-court semifinal this season.

Youzhny rallied to defeat Feliciano Lopez in the round of 16, 6-7(5), 6-2, 7-5. The 29-year-old Russian will be looking to make his first hard-court semifinal since Marseille.

    Prediction: Ljubicic in straight sets.
