  • Ferrer and Nalbandian take the court at Japan Open

    10/4/11 4:27 AM | Cheryl Murray
Ferrer and Nalbandian take the court at Japan Open Tour veterans David Ferrer and David Nalbandian will take to the court on Tuesday as the first round in Tokyo continues.

David Ferrer (3) vs. Kei Nishikori

No. 3 seed David Ferrer goes into his first-round match in Tokyo against the hometown hero. Kei Nishikori, ranked 47th in the world, will be the overwhelming crowd favorite. The Japanese man, just 21 years old, has a surprising 1-0 head-to-head record over Ferrer. Their only other meeting came at the 2008 US Open, which Nishikori won in five grueling sets.

Ferrer will be the favorite, but home-court advantage might give Nishikori at least a chance at the upset.

    David Nalbandian vs. Lukas Rosol

Argentine veteran David Nalbandian has seen his ranking slip to No. 64 in the world. He has had mostly mediocre results in 2011, with a pair of third-round showings at Wimbledon and the US Open. He will take on world No. 77 Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic.

Rosol has been struggling mightily this season. The Czech has suffered six consecutive first-round losses in ATP-level tournaments.

Prediction – this should be a victory for Nalbandian.
