    Berdych looks toward China Open quarterfinal Tournament seed Tomas Berdych will continue his effort in Beijing, as he faces German qualifier Philipp Kohlschreiber. Fernando Verdasco is also in action, set to face qualifier Flavio Cipolla early Wednesday.

    World No. 10 Tomas Berdych holds a 6-1 lifetime edge against qualifier Philipp Kohlschreiber. The players last met at the 2011 Australian Open, where the Czech recorded a four-set victory.

    Berdych kicked off his China Open bid with a 7-5, 7-5 win over former top 10 player Jurgen Melzer. The 26-year-old is bidding for his 14th ATP World Tour quarterfinal of the season.

    Kohlschreiber defeated Tommy Robredo in the first round, 6-3, 7-6(0). The 27-year-old is seeking his first tour-level quarterfinal since June, when he won the title in Halle.

    Prediction: Berdych in straight sets.

    Fernando Verdasco vs. (Q) Flavio Cipolla

    World No. 23 Fernando Verdasco dismissed French veteran Michael Llodra in the opening round, 6-2, 6-4. The 27-year-old Spaniard looks to make his first quarterfinal since early August, when he advanced to the final eight in Washington.

    Cipolla recorded his fifth tour-level victory of the season with an upset of 8th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov in the first round. The 95th-ranked Italian will attempt to reach his first ATP World Tour quarterfinal in 2011.

    Prediction: Verdasco in straight sets.
