Top seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will be in first-round action at the China Open as he takes to the court against Grigor Dimitrov. Fellow seed Tomas Berdych is set to begin his run against Jurgen Melzer.
(1) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. Grigor Dimitrov
World No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga leads Grigor Dimitrov 2-0 in the series, having recorded two wins in 2011.
Tsonga makes his return to competition following a successful effort in Metz. The 26-year-old Frenchman added career title No. 6 to his tally after beating veteran Ivan Ljubicic in the final. He is bidding for his 42nd victory of the season.
The 70th-ranked Dimitrov is 15-22 for the season by virtue of his quarterfinal finish in Bangkok. The 20-year-old won consecutive matches before falling to eventual champion Andy Murray. Dimitrov will make his Beijing debut on Tuesday.
Prediction: Tsonga in straight sets.
(3) Tomas Berdych vs. Jurgen Melzer
World No. 10 Tomas Berdych trails opponent Jurgen Melzer 2-1 in the series. The players are set to meet for the first time since 2007.
Berdych returns to action after a successful run against Romania in Davis Cup. The 26-year-old Czech is 42-18 entering into the China Open having made the final four in six tournaments this season.
Former world No. 8 Melzer is a modest 20-20 for 2011. The veteran reached the quarterfinals in Kuala Lumpur, where he fell to finalist Marcos Baghdatis in straight sets. Melzer is set to debut at the China Open on Tuesday.
Prediction: Berdych in three sets.
