(8) Alexandr Dolgopolov vs. (Q) Flavio Cipolla
Eighth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov holds a 2-0 lifetime advantage against qualifier Flavio Cipolla. The players last met at the 2011 USO Open, where the Ukranian recorded a five-set victory.
Dolgopolov returns to the court following a semifinal finish in Metz. The 22-year-old advanced to the final four before falling to eventual champion, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Dolgopolov is bidding for his 35th win of the season Monday afternoon.
Cipolla looks to regroup after a second-round loss to Janko Tipsarevic in Kuala Lumpur. The Italian qualifier will attempt to secure his fifth tour-level victory of the year.
Fernando Verdasco vs. Michael Llodra
Fernando Verdasco looks to break a 2-2 series tie with Michael Llodra on Monday. The two last clashed at the 2011 Masters 1000 Cincinnati, where the Spaniard recorded a straight-set victory.
Verdasco is 32-20 for the season, entering into his fourth China Open. The 27-year-old turned in his best effort in 2009, when he made the final eight (lost to Djokovic).
Llodra aims to rebound after a first-round loss to fellow veteran Arnaud Clement in Metz. The 32-year-old Frenchman, looking to win his first match in Beijing, is a modest 17-18 for the season.
