  • Murray takes on Dimitrov in Bangkok quarters

    9/30/11 3:03 AM | Cheryl Murray
Murray takes on Dimitrov in Bangkok quarters An in-form Andy Murray will take on young Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov for a spot in the semifinals.

Andy Murray (1) vs. Grigor Dimitrov

This will be the first ever meeting between world No. 4 Andy Murray and No. 76 Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian has long been touted as a player to watch, but has only just recently started moving up the rankings.

The Bulgarian is rather unfortunate to run into an in-form Murray in the quarters. The Scot played efficient tennis in his opener against Michael Berrer.

Prediction – Murray in straight sets

Gael Monfils (2) vs. Jarkko Nieminen

Tournament No. 2 seed and world No. 9 Gael Monfils took a little while to get warmed up in his second round match against Santiago Giraldo. He dropped the middle set before righting the ship and closing out the third 6-1. That last set doesn’t bode well for Jarkko Nieminen’s chances.

The Finn had an upset win over Robin Haase in the second round, but Monfils is a different caliber player. Monfils is still recovering from the knee injury that kept him out of the Davis Cup semifinals, but he seemed to shake the rust off well enough this week.

    Prediction – Monfils in 3.

If Dimitrov can play some of the tennis he played against Bolelli, he's going to make things very difficult for Murray.

Murray striking the ball well. And now the chance to serve for the first set.

A straight sets win and no "difficulties" for Andy. Probably because he is a rather better player than Bolelli.
The Bangkok crowd seem to like him too. Nice.

I was only able to watch the first set but Andy seemed very cool, calm, and collected. The crowd definitely enjoy their tennis and seem very knowledgeable don't they.
btw: I was watching a stream with a French commentary and they were extremely enthusiastic about Andy and went on and on about his 'lucidity'.

@deuce, the Bankok crowd obviously know a good thing when they see it! People of taste but then Im a scot so perhaps a bit bias, lol!

This seems to be the only place where any tennis is being talked about. The tennis channel will cover Bangkok starting with the semifinals. I look forward to getting to see the matches.

Then next week Rafa will be playing in Japan! Can't wait!

And as 'YKW' is not playing we might get a bit of peace and quiet around here - at least until the Paris Master.

We can only hope! Here's wishing good luck to Andy! Go for it! :)
