Bucharest - Robredo, Chardy highlight modest Monday Tournament seed Tommy Robredo will begin his run in Bucharest, as he takes to the court against Joao Souza. Joining the Spaniard is Jeremy Chardy, who faces Frederico Gil of Portugal.

    (5) Tommy Robredo vs. Joao Souza

World No. 44 Tommy Robredo will attempt to record his 20th victory of the season. The 29-year-old Spaniard makes his return to competition, following a long layoff with a left leg injury. Robredo will be making his first appearance in Bucharest Monday afternoon.

World No. 87 Joao Souza looks to win his first Tour-level match since August, when he advanced to the final four in Kitzbuhel. The 23-year-old Brazilian, set to contest his first Bucharest event, is 5-6 for the year.

    Jeremy Chardy vs. Frederico Gil

World No. 105 Jeremy Chardy holds a 3-0 series lead over opponent Frederico Gil. The players last met at the 2008 US Open, where the Frenchman scored a first-round victory in four sets.

Chardy has struggled as of late, unable to win back-to-back matches this season. The 24-year-old, who reached a career-high World No. 31 in early 2009, made the Bucharest quarterfinal last year.

Gil enters into the tournament ranked World No. 100. The 26-year-old is a modest 10-17 for the season, looking to win his first Tour-level match since Gstaad. He remains in search of his maiden win in Bucharest.
