Come Wimbledon, he met Tsonga in the QF and lost, whilst Rafa had to deal with Fish, then already a top ten player and than Murray, no.4 guy, in the semi, so who had the cup cake draw?Again meeting Nole in the SF won't be as daunting as meeting Rafa, in Fed's perspective, though the point was mute as he couldn't get past Tsonga in the QF.

This USO, Fed has the advantage with the scheduling favoring him, what's there to complain about when he had more time to rest now while others are still struggling to complete their matches. Fingers crossed that Fed vs Tsonga, Tsonga may come out victorious again.

We all know why Nole beat Fed lat year now don't we? It's OK that Nole peaks now, and wins his second and third slams, may be even fourth slam. I just thought you were because nirv posted about djokovic and nadal and you, in response, brought up federer which nirv didn't mention.

If I may add my 2 cents about the subject, I think that had djokovic peaked at like 21/22 years of age nadal and federer would have won less GS but I think nadal would've been more affected. I say this because since 2009 federer won 3 GS while nadal has won 5 GS. For example if djokovic was playing at this level last year's US Open final would've been won by djokovic, I guess there's no doubt about that.

I am not a Nadal hater , but I am fan of players who focus on career longevity , extreme fitness , attacking play and a zen like focus to their game . So I like Federer , Lendl , Borg , Sampras , Dolgopolov , Tsonga , Agassi for some of these reasons .

No I dont see Nadal in the same category and I see that he has shortened his shelf life with a very crude playing style and several other injuries.

bleck, my opinion differ from yours. Don't forget if Nole peak from 2008-2010, Fed's 2008 USO title might be Nole's instead, or even Fed'a 2010 AO! Not forgetting Fed's 2009 FO and Wimbledon! Don't forget Fed was not in his peak from 2008-2010 while Rafa was, so Fed would be the one more affected by Nole. You may think that Nole would beat Rafa at 2010 USO, but that was 2010, not 2011. Do bear in mind that Nole was having difficulty beating Rafa at Miami this year, and this 2011 Rafa wasn't even close to that 2010 USO Rafa in terms of level of play, so it's still mere speculation that Nole would beat Rafa at last year's USO.

Rafa had a longer SF match against Verdasco at the AO 2009, a five hour match, and he met Fed, the hard court slam master, in the final and still beat Fed. Why Nole can't do the same in the final? As I've mentioned, the Rafa of 2010 wasn't the same as the one of 2011, and yet Nole had difficulty beating the Rafa of 2011 on the hard courts, what make people think that Nole of 2011 would sure beat Rafa of 2010 at the USO?

nirv- did you miss something here, ie Fed was no longer in his peak from 2008-2010; whilst Rafa was in his peak. Also in 2009, the non peak Nole had beaten Fed on clay, imagine a peak Nole vs Fed at RG that year! What's so difficult to understand which is more likely to happen and which is mere speculation?

The 2007 masters cup was also a good beating 6-4;6-1 Federer. :)

Nirv and bleck - I'm not here to bash Fed. In fact I recognize and respect his achievements. It's just that all these constant bashing and belittling of Rafa's achievements have made us Rafa fans sick and irritated. Both of them are great tennis players, whether Rafa can match Fed's slam tally or not, no one knows, and bashing Rafa won't stop him from achieving more if Rafa is capable of doing so. Belittling Rafa's achievements is indirectly belittling Fed, as they're so closely linked in their careers. Just enjoy their tennis while we can, as we do not know when they'll call it quit.

I like Rafa's tennis because I see the intelligence behind his play, the chess master type of game, doing the manuvering and then choosing the right moment to go for the kill. He's also improving his shot making abilities and still has plenty of room for improvement.

I also like watching Murray when he's on song, the varieites he can display during a match is fascinating, especially his mastery of changing of pace.

I often read this forum and luckystar has consistently been fair and even handed, compared to other Nadal fans here. That's why I'm surprised to read a 5 set loss in 2008 Wimbledon constitutes 'being creamed' . I agree the FO of that year, Federer was wiped off the map. And Fed IS the underdog vs Tsonga. I'd be surprised if Fed does it, and if he does, it will be in 4 and he will have to hold his own in a couple of tiebreakers since he can't break Tsonga.

Counterfactual arguments - i.e. 'what would have happened if' are fun but they should never be taken too seriously because they didn't happen! All I know is that in 2008 Nadal won the FO and Wimbledon, but lost to Murray in the SF of the USO and it would have been nice to see a Fedal final there (or also USO 2009). But I'm not going to now claim Fed 'would have surely beat Nadal' or something.

As for fed getting some kind of easy draw and good scheduling - just imagine what would have happened if Nadal had a match starting at 11:50pm ? There would have been such an uproar here, with people claiming federer had influenced the organizers to put Nadal on last, or some other grand conspiracy.

Strange that I'm being called two face here, when I was just merely stating facts, like Fed did lose to Rafa five times in a row, from FO2005 till FO2006 (he also lost to Rafa four times in a row in 2008 but he was not in his peak then), and I did acknowledge that Rafa lost to Nole five times in a row too. When nirv mentioned that Rafa was being beaten to the pulp, I mentioned that Fed too also had his fair share of beatings, and gave some examples; again all these were facts.

However, did I belittle Fed's dominance and his no.of weeks as no.1, or his 23 consecutive slam SFs? The only two assumptions ( and not facts) I made were 1) if Rafa was born five years earlier, or same time as Fed; and 2) if Nole reached his peak earlier than now, from 2008-2010, what would most likely happen. Reality is, Fed has his 16 slams, Rafa his 10 slams, and Nole is in his peak now, and thank goodness, while their careers intersect at certain points, they don't start out together, if not they'll ruin their own chances of winning more slams, having to fight each other when they peak together.

But unfortunately it has to happen at times that we do come together and speak as a, you know, big voice, all the players together. That's why actually Rafa, me and also Novak in the beginning, you know, took an active role in the player council. Because as I said, it's enough of those things that we find out later. We should play an active role. If we don't want to complain, we should have to take an active role. That's why Rafa and myself we are where we are on the player council and at least working through the issues with the ATP. Then like I say, there is the whole ITF Grand Slam issue, whish is a tough battle to battle. We just hope that they understand the issues, you know, and the protection of the players are very important. Whatever that means, you know. I think it's very important that we do get to a table and speak, which never actually happens.

I saw the water that he dropped behind him on court, I thought he was annoyed doing this, but it is nothing. It didn't hurt or hit anyone. It was a hot day, but what was more annoying and I saw rafa not shake soderling's hand either and make fun of him holding up a ball at wimbledon! when soderling changed a racket, such class, and I see murray yesterday saying s@@t and people apologising on his behalf, all he time, for his behavior. such class? no awards for that one.
