World No. 3 Roger Federer will complete the Monday evening session as he takes to the court against Juan Monaco. The players are vying for a spot among the final eight at the US Open.
Five-time champion Roger Federer leads Juan Monaco 2-0 in the series, which includes a recent meeting at the Masters 1000 Miami. Monday signals their second hard-court contest.
Federer advanced to the round of 16, having ousted 27th seed Marin Cilic in four sets. After overcoming a second-set lull, the Swiss came back strong to close the match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The 30-year-old is bidding for his 8th consecutive quarterfinal at the US Open.
World No. 36 Juan Monaco reached the final 16 by virtue of his four-set victory over veteran Tommy Haas. The Argentine dropped the opening set, then rallied through to a 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 win.
He looks to make his first quarterfinal at the US Open.
Prediction: Federer in straight sets.
