Andy Roddick and David Ferrer will take the court as the US Open heads into Labor Day weekend.
Andy Roddick vs. Jack Sock
American newcomer Jack Sock won his first ever ATP level match in the first round against Marc Gicquel this week. The 18-year old Sock is ranked 555 in the world as he just starts his professional career. By contrast, Andy Roddick has won 579 matches in his career. The 29-year old even has a US Open trophy in his collection.
Roddick hasn’t been at his best this year. The American veteran sustained an abdominal injury this summer that kept him out of Washington DC and Montreal. Roddick followed up the pair of no-shows with a first round loss to Philipp Kohlschreiber in Cincinnati.
Prediction – Even with his dodgy form, Roddick should get through this one in straight sets.
David Ferrer vs. James Blake
American James Blake is in the middle of a career comeback. The American’s ranking has jumped over 100 points since March of this year to his current spot of No. 63.
No. 5 seed David Ferrer is making his way back from a micro-fracture of the wrist that kept him out part of the summer. The Spaniard showed some signs of rust in his first round match against Igor Andreev, which may point to some hope for Blake and the American fans.
Blake actually holds a 2-0 record over Ferrer, but their last meeting came in 2010 at Indian Wells.
Prediction – The American will have a shot at the win here.
