World No. 8 Mardy Fish makes his return to the US Open with a 36-17 season record. The 29-year-old American enters into the tournament with momentum, having won the Atlanta title in late July. Fish advanced to the final in both Los Angeles and Canada, then finished with semifinal effort in Cincinnati.
World No. 92 Tobias Kamke is 12-18 for the season, following a second-round defeat to Juan Monaco in Winston-Salem. The 25-year-old German is bidding for his first victory at the US Open.
Prediction: Fish in straight sets.
(15) Viktor Troicki vs. Alejandro Falla
World No. 16 Viktor Troicki looks to regroup after suffering a first-round loss to Fabio Fognini at the Western & Southern Open. The 25-year-old is 34-18 entering into the US Open, with six quarterfinal or better results achieved in 2011.
World No. 119 Alejandro Falla has compiled a modest 8-15 Tour-level record this season. The 27-year-old looks to win his first match since July, when he reached the round of 16 in Los Angeles.
Prediction: Troicki in straight sets.
