  • Monfils and Djokovic meet on blockbuster qf day in Cincy

    8/19/11 1:43 PM | Cheryl Murray
Monfils and Djokovic meet on blockbuster qf day in Cincy In a re-match of their quarterfinal last week in Montreal, Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils meet again, with Monfils looking for revenge for the loss.

Gael Monfils has an uphill battle if he hopes to give Novak Djokovic his second defeat of the season. The Frenchman has not only lost each of the last 7 matches he’s played against Djokovic, but he was positively crushed last week 6-2, 6-1 by the Serb.

The one upside for Monfils is that Djokovic hasn’t played nearly as well this week so far as he did in Montreal. The Serb fairly easily defeated Radek Stepanek on Thursday, but he also lost his serve 3 times in so doing. Monfils should prove to be a tougher customer than Stepanek.

Monfils is one of the best athletes in the ATP. Should this match go the distance, at least the Frenchman would be able to keep up with Djokovic. The Serb will still be the heavy favorite, however.

Prediction – Djokovic in straight sets.

Ohhhh this will be fun to watch... what will Gael try this time, I don't know but it will be funny:))

The only thing blockbuster about this, is gonna be watching Djokovic run Monfils ragged all over the court in Cincinnati. If Monfils takes this to 3, I will literally slap myself silly. That's how shocked I'll be if that happens, lol. Good day everyone!!

Forget counting the aces. They both have legs like a couple of bendy toys and it will be more a case of who does the splits the most often.

Djoko looks drained though.

So far, Monfils is taking it to Djokovic. Definitely tuned in to see how this unfolds. If only Monfils played like this more often, who knows where he'd be right now. Better late than never though.

I think Djokovic will turn it around.

Anyway, this is actually the first time I'm seeing Monfils playing some real tennis.

Emiliano55, looks like Nole turned it around.

He really has forgotten how to lose...except at this years FO.

I just get a feeling that Nole will be too fatigued for the US. He is playing way too much tennis.
