Andy Murray fell to Alex Bogomolov in stunning fashion at the Sony Ericsson Open earlier this year. Now, on Thursday, Murray will get a chance to avenge the loss when the two players hold court in Cincinnati.
Andy Murray and Alex Bogomolov will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers at the ATP level when they square off in the third round of the Western & Southern Open on Thursday. Their only previous encounter came earlier this season in Miami, where Bogomolov pulled off a 6-1, 7-5 stunner.
For Bogomolov, the upset victory kick-started what has been a breakout 2011 campaign. The 28-year-old American boasts a 16-12 record and things just keep getting better and better for him. He reached the Los Angeles semifinals earlier this month then qualified for Montreal and advanced one round. So far this week he has taken out Robby Ginepri and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, both in straight sets.
Murray's year has been a roller-coaster, to put it mildly. The fourth-ranked Scot seemed to emerge from a slump with solid showings on clay and grass, but he dropped his opener at the Rogers Cup in straight sets to Kevin Anderson. Nonetheless, Murray bounced back on Wednesday in Cincinnati with a straight-set dismissal of David Nalbandian.
Another surprise is not entirely out of the question simply because Bogomolov is in outstanding form. However, his run has to end at some point and Murray will be eager to turn the tide after what transpired at the Sony Ericsson Open. Look for Murray to prevail in straight sets.

What are you going on about?
Ho-Ho-Ho
I think we may be witnessing some kind of mental breakdown here!
Oh BTW Muzzy & Bogo are at 5-5 in the 2nd,
I'll have to retract the pasting part of my post sadly...

Did you hear my big sigh of relief Deuce? Ragged in places but he got the job done.

Yes ed, it probably met mine mid-channel :) Andy needs another win here, then I don't care, just want him ready for USOpen. Lots of beautifully constructed points, gr8 ROS and yes that BHDL too, marvellous...but oh that blooming serve. It looks very, very hot out there, doesn't it, but I see Fed has a night match.....again.....

Have a nice and relaxed evening Deuce and Alex :)
zare , 8/18/11 9:15 PM
zare, cheers :) :) Don't think you'll be twitching though, the way Nole is playing at the mo :)
deuce , 8/18/11 9:26 PM
zare, thanx.
deuce, yep, muzz loosening up and starting to flow. Still a few stutters, but if he can get past simon (my guess) then he should be nicely limbered up and on target to peak at the right time and place ;) That said, if he keeps improving I'm not ruling him out for this Sunday. And yep, fed gets a nice evening slot again - if my memory serves me right fed won cincy last year without having to play any of the top guys ... that kind of deal would be good for muzz's build up this time ... but muzz ain't fed ...

Take note, ye that complain about muzz getting preferential centre court treatment whenever he plays in Britain ... Round 3 and the #4 seed is out on Court 3 this time. Expect more of the same at Flushing Meadows. No complaints ... just as there shouldn't be when it works the other way;)
