World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will complete quarterfinal play Friday evening, as he takes to the court against fifth seed Gael Monfils. The players are vying for a spot among the final four in Montreal.
Top seed Novak Djokovic holds a 6-1 series advantage over quarterfinal opponent Gael Monfils. Friday signals their fifth meeting on hard-court.
Djokovic reached the final eight by virtue of his straight-set ousting of Marin Cilic. The 24-year-old came through the round of 16 Thursday afternoon, 7-5, 6-2. The World No. 1 is bidding for his 51st victory of the season.
World No. 7 Gael Monfils survived a challenging round of 16, having rallied to oust 12th seed Viktor Troicki in three sets. The Frenchman saved three match points on his way to a 3-6, 7-6(0), 7-6(5) win.
He looks to make his fourth ATP World Tour semifinal of the year.
Prediction: Djokovic in straight sets.

Djokovic's lost to Monfils in 2004 on clay at Bergamo. I think it was a Challenger event.

Since when are challenger events counted in the head to head? i thought its not part of the ATP..
might as well throw in exhibitions then.

awesome set from djokovic after that first service game. 6-2.

3-0 in the second. Brilliant improvement from the first two rounds, thankfully, I can go back to bed sooner that I'd thought.

he looks better in each round. my only complaint is humid weather in montreal.

Nole was great...again! Never seen a season like this. I wonder if Jo can do anything to slow him down; he has also been playing great. the final will definitely be contested tomorrow between those 2...unless of course they play a marathon and the winner is too worn out.
Monfils was all too happy to be getting his ass kicked tonight. He's a clown really. I just noticed how much he resembles Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons. He did manage to throw Nole's concentration off the last 2 games with his shenanigans though so maybe the clown act was strategic.;)

numero, I like your remark about Monfils. Sosueme was surprised that Fedfans have a sense of humor. I am surprised too that Fedfans can make intelligent remarks. I thought they had a rigid script which does not allow deviation from zombie like intonations of Fed's GOAThood and allegations against Rafa.

What a season Djoker's having! Deserves to be bottled for posterity...................

numero, Andy said after a match that it was quite easy to get distracted by what was going on on the other side of the net!
My goodness Nole.....

It is just great how Nole was playing...the guy is simply unbelievable...he is getting better as the tournament progresses...and he does not seem to get tired at all...amazing...I don?t think Nole is feeling any pressure being No1...he is enjoying attention he is getting and playing with so much confidence...he fears nobody...Tsonga again does not stand a chance with this Nole...
natashao , 8/13/11 9:00 AM
natashao, ooh, I think Tsonga's definitely got a chance, he's playing like the old days at the mo. He's not going to let Nole develop his shots, like Rafa does. Only thing is, he doesn't come foreward as often as he should . Can't wait! Should be a cracker!
