A surprising third-round matchup in Montreal on Thursday features Janko Tipsarevic and Ivan Dodig. The result will put one of the unseeded players in the quarterfinals.
What will Ivan Dodig do for an encore?
One day after recovering from a major deficit--against Rafael Nadal of all people--to earn a 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(5) over the world No. 2, Dodig will be in third-round action at the Rogers Cup against Janko Tipsarevic. This is the second career meeting between the two players, with Tipsarevic having prevailed 7-6(0), 6-1 earlier this season in Delray Beach.
Dodig, though, obviously has a ton of momentum right now--and not just from his most recent performance. The 41st-ranked Croat has looked like a new man all season long, earning 22 of his 32 career ATP match wins in 2011. Dodig, who captured the Zagreb title and finished runner-up in 's-Hertogenbosch, opened with a routine dismissal of Jeremy Chardy prior to his epic victory over Nadal.
Tipsarevic is also enjoying a huge 2011 campaign. The 24th-ranked Serb owns a 32-16 record thanks to wins in Montreal so far over Alejandro Falla and Fernando Verdasco. He is continuing to show positive signs during this U.S. Open Series, having reached the Washington quarterfinals last week before falling to Gael Monfils.
Fatigue could be factor in this one, just as it could be in several matches due to what has been a rain-delayed Masters event. Dodig spent three hours and nine minutes on the court against Nadal, but Tipsarevic needed two hours and 58 minutes to get past Verdasco.
It is never hard to replicate an epic win less than 24 hours later, but Dodig could do just that if he puts in a high percentage of first serves and can make his way to the net. Tipsarevic has to be a slight favorite, but look for Dodig to pull off another three-set upset.

Let's not forget he lost the first set to Rafa by the same score. Even if it does continue, he played over 3 hours last night. He may be tired so I won't read too much into it.

Yes youre right. It might just be to difficult for a young men to repeat. But he should have still enough adrenaline last from last night.

O my god. Dodig win might be a fluke. He is getting killed by Tipsarevic.
If this continues we seriously have to doubt Nadals game.
