American Mardy Fish will get a chance to avenge his crushing 5-set Davis Cup loss to Feliciano Lopez as the two men take the court on Wednesday night.
A few weeks ago, the Spanish Davis Cup team traveled to Houston, Texas to contest the Davis Cup quarterfinal. Feliciano Lopez’s 5-set upset of Mardy Fish helped the Spanish team to victory.
This time, Fish will have a considerable advantage. Lopez’s match against Radek Stepanek was cut short on Tuesday night due to inclement weather throughout the day and the Spaniard was forced to finish on Wednesday afternoon. By comparison, Fish has had plenty of rest, enjoying a first round bye.
Lopez is a tough customer on hard courts. The Spaniard has a big serve-forehand combination that is well-suited to the quicker North American hard courts. Still, the outcome of the match is going to largely hinge on Fish’s level of recovery from an injury he picked up in Los Angeles, where he lost in the final to Ernests Gulbis.
Prediction – Fish to get his revenge in 3.
