Argentine veteran David Nalbandian will take on the No. 14 seed Stanislas Wawrinka as the first summer Masters tournament gets underway on Monday.
David Nalbandian vs. Stanislas Wawrinka (14)
Ordinarily, drawing Stanislas Wawrinka in the first round of a tournament would be bad news, but the Swiss No. 2 has not been up to his normal form since making the round of 16 at the French Open. In fact, Wawrinka has failed to win more than 1 match at a time at any tournament since then.
David Nalbandian hasn’t struggled as much as Wawrinka has, but the Argentine, who was defending a 2010 title in Washington, lost in his second round match against James Blake.
Wawrinka holds a winning record over Nalbandian at 5-3, but the Argentine won their last meeting in 2010 in Washington.
Prediction – Wawrinka to just squeeze out the win.
Pablo Andujar vs. Kevin Anderson
Big-serving South African Kevin Anderson has had the year of his career so far. He had a number of good results in 2011, including a first-ever title at his home tournament in Johannesburg.
His opponent Pablo Andujar also won a title this year, but that was on the clay courts of Casablanca. As with many Spaniards, Andujar’s ATP success is limited almost exclusively to the dirt.
Andujar is not likely to have much success defending against the big serve of Anderson. The South African’s game works best on fast hard courts. Anderson should have no trouble getting through this match.

Nalbs barely put up a fight. Wawa was in complete control of the from the word go. I fear we are nearing the end of Nalb's career.

It was terrible. But Nalbandian looked like he lost a few pounds. May be he just needs some match practise. Hewasout for a few months and it takes a long time to be fully back. So to say his career is ending well he would have the last say but I am sure he'll give it a go for 1 more year.

Nalbandian and Wawa look like they are really fit/lean you might say.
Wawa got the break in first set and looks determined.
