American John Isner and No. 1 seed Gael Monfils will take the court on Saturday night; the winner will head to the final on Sunday.
France’s Gael Monfils showed some of his best tennis on Friday against Janko Tipsarevic, with the Frenchman showing off the impressive span of his athletic abilities.
John Isner wasn’t quite as impressive in his three-set victory over No. 3 seed Vikor Troicki. The American had a letdown in the second set in which his serve deserted him. Isner found his game again in the third, however.
Monfils and Isner have played on 5 other occasions, with world No.35 Isner holding a slight 3-2 edge, though Monfils won their last encounter in Montpellier last year.
The Frenchman has the sort of game that can throw Isner out-of-sorts. Monfils is one of the best movers in the men’s game. He will spend the match getting Isner out of position. The American will keep the match close, but Monfils will be there to take advantage if Isner has any serving lapses.
Prediction – Monfils in 3.
