Sunday’s final in Gstaad will end with one of the players winning their first title of the year. Fernando Verdasco and Marcel Granollers will battle in an all-Spaniard clash.
Fernando Verdasco, as the world No. 20 and veteran with 5 ATP titles to his name, will go into this final as the favorite.
Marcel Granollers is ranked 45 in the world and is considered a clay-court specialist as many Spaniards are. Not only would this be Granollers’s first title of 2011, it is also his first final of the season. He is actually far more successful on the doubles circuit than singles. Still, he had a great win over Mikhail Youzhny of Russia in the semifinals.
Verdasco is only just re-finding his form after a dreadful Roland Garros-Wimbledon combo which yielded second and third round results respectively. The world No. 20 made the semis in Hamburg last week and looks to improve on that result considerably with a win in Gstaad.
Prediction – Verdasco for the win.
