Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny and No. 2 seed Stanislas Wawrinka will take the court on Friday as Gstaad inches closer to final Sunday.
Mikhail Youzhny vs. Andreas Haider-Maurer
Hamburg semi-finalist Mikhail Youzhny will take on Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer in the Gstaad quarterfinals. Youzhny has been playing well over the past few months. He defeated the likes of Juan Monaco and Nicolas Almagro at Wimbledon before going down to Roger Federer at Wimbledon. He also defeated Marin Cilic on his way to the semis in Hamburg last week.
Maurer didn’t have a good grass court season, but he performed well in Bastad, where he lost in the quarterfinals to David Ferrer.
With Youzhny playing well, the Russian should win this one in straight sets.
Stanislas Wawrinka (2) vs. Marcel Granollers (8)
Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka has a tricky quarterfinal opponent in Marcel Granollers of Spain. The two men have met twice, with each player snagging a win. Granollers actually won their last encounter just this year at the Miami Masters.
The Swiss crowd will surely give Wawrinka a boost, but Granollers could make life difficult for the hometown favorite.
Prediction – Granollers for the upset.
