(1) Gael Monfils vs. Radek Stepanek
World No. 7 Gael Monfils holds a 4-2 lifetime advantage against round of 16 opponent Radek Stepanek. Thursday signals their second meeting on clay.
Monfils made a successful 2011 Hamburg debut with a straight-set victory over Spanish qualifier Albert Ramos. The 24-year-old Frenchman is bidding for his fifth quarterfinal this season.
World No. 57 Radek Stepanek reached the third round after ousting 13th seed Andreas Seppi in straight sets. The 32-year-old Czech looks to make his fourth Tour-level quarter in 2011.
Prediction: Monfils in three sets.
(4) Mikhail Youzhny vs. (WC) Julian Reister
Fourth seed Mikhail Youzhny advanced to the third round, following his straight-set success over Argentine Carlos Berlocq. The 29-year-old Russian will attempt to make his first quarterfinal since February, when he finished among the final four in Marseilles.
World No. 155 Julian Reister upset 14th seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the second round, 7-6(5), 6-2. The 25-year-old wildcard remains on track to reach his first Tour-level quarterfinal this year.
