The top two seeds will be in opening-round action at the UNICEF Open, as Nicolas Almagro and Marcos Baghdatis square off against Michael Berrer and Arnaud Clement. The players look to reach the round of 16.
(1) Nicolas Almagro vs. Michael Berrer
World No. 15 Nicolas Almagro trails first-round opponent Michael Berrer 0-1 in the series, having lost their only previous meeting in Vienna in 2008.
Almagro will be looking to recover after a first-round exit at the French Open. The 25-year-old Spaniard, already three-times a title winner this season, is 31-10 entering into his first UNICEF Open.
World No. 79 Michael Berrer makes his return to competition following a round of 16 defeat to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in London. The 30-year-old German is a modest 11-10 for the year.
Prediction: Almagro in three sets.
(2/WC) Marcos Baghdatis vs. (Q) Arnaud Clement
World No. 31 Marcos Baghdatis holds a 4-2 series advantage over opening-round opponent Arnaud Clement. Monday signals their first meeting on grass.
Baghdatis will attempt to win his 10th match of the season Monday afternoon. The 25-year-old Cypriot has compiled a 9-13 record entering into his second UNICEF Open, where he advanced to the final four during his debut effort.
World No. 146 Arnaud Clement is 3-5 for 2011, following a second-round finish at the French Open. The 33-year-old veteran is twice a finalist at the event, having made the championship match in 2002 and 2003.
Prediction: Baghdatis in straight sets.
