  • Querrey, Isner headline Wednesday play in Houston

    4/6/11 8:00 PM | Kelli DeMario
Querrey, Isner headline Wednesday play in Houston Former finalist Sam Querrey will begin his run at the 2011 US Men’s Clay Court Championship, as he faces wildcard Ryan Sweeting. John Isner is set to close the evening session with an opening-round match against Horacio Zeballos.

    (2) Sam Querrey vs. (WC) Ryan Sweeting

World No. 20 Sam Querrey looks to break a 1-1 series tie with fellow American Ryan Sweeting on Wednesday. The two last met in Delray Beach, where Sweeting recorded a victory in the round of 16.

Querrey enters into the tournament with a 6-7 season record. The 2010 Houston runner-up has struggled in 2011, having made one quarterfinal out of seven events. He returns to action following a third-round loss to Viktor Troicki in Miami.

World No. 93 Ryan Sweeting opened his bid with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over American qualifier Tim Smyczek. The 23-year-old will be looking to reach his second quarterfinal of the season (Delray Beach).

    (4) John Isner vs. Horacio Zeballos

Fourth seed John Isner leads Horacio Zeballos 1-0 prior to their second-round meeting. Isner captured their only previous match in 2010, where he rallied to a victory at the Masters 1000 Rome.

The American has compiled a 7-7 record heading into his fourth Houston tournament. He is bidding for his second quarterfinal of the season, after reaching the same stage in Auckland.

World No. 94 Horacio Zeballos won his opener against wildcard Ryan Harrison, 6-4, 6-3. The 25-year-old Argentine will attempt to win back-to-back matches for the first time since Santiago.
