Fourth seed Viktor Troicki is scheduled to take on former World No. 6 Gilles Simon for the Medibank International title. The players are set to contest their fifth ATP World Tour match Saturday evening.
World No. 30 Viktor Troicki trails World No. 41 Gilles Simon 0-4 heading into their championship clash. The two last met at the 2009 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai, where the Frenchman scored a second-round victory in straight sets. Simon has captured eight of 8 sets contested against Troicki through four completed matches.
The Serbian will be making his fourth appearance in an ATP World Tour final on Saturday. He is bidding for his second title, after winning his first last season in Moscow.
Troicki advanced to the Sydney championship after defeating Florian Mayer of Germany in the semifinal, 6-4, 6-4. The 24-year-old has not dropped a set during the event, having recorded straight-set wins over veteran Juan Ignacio Chela and 5th seed Richard Gasquet earlier in the week.
World No. 41 Gilles Simon remains on course to take his 8th ATP World Tour title. The 26-year-old is through to his first final since September 2010, when he put together a title-winning run at the Open de Moselle.
Simon battled into the final with a 7-6(1), 6-0, semifinal-round victory over third seed Ernests Gulbis. Like his opponent, the former World No. 6 has not surrendered a set all week, with straight-set wins earned against 8th seed Yen-Hsun Lu, qualifier Frederico Gil and Alexandr Dolgopolov.
Prediction: Troicki will have to keep his nerves and unforced error count in check to win. Should be move competitive than their previous matches, with a steadier Simon taking the title in three sets.

One of the worst line calls in the history of the world, robs Simon of the first set but he gets it 2 games later. Love Simon's game, a great strategist. Come on!

First set to Simon 7-5. Simon has got game and is lightning fast around the court. A Federer v Simon 2nd round AO matchup is going to be a tough game for Federer.

well played Gilles! Hmm, Troicki looked a bit flaky at times and seems to lack variety in his game, may have to revise my bracket challenge ;)

troicki sure didn't manage to keep his temper and his ufe in check. the match looked like an emotional roller coaster for him. the guy has a big game in him if he can learn to focus. match was close, but simon is a giant in comparison.

Well done Simon. Like deuce, I like Simon's game. He plays like Murray but a poorer version. He has a good tennis brain and I like what I hear from one of the commentators, that Simon's play is like spinning a web and it slowly but steadily closes in on his opponents. It's frustrating playing against a player like this, who can read your game, anticipated well and moves so quickly around the court. He also can change his pace on the ball and keeps his opponent guessing. Really interesting and hard to beat player, no wonder he gives Fed problems and beats him in the past. Though Fed wasn't at his best then in 2008, still at the TMC 2008, Fed was still able to play three sets of good tennis against Simon and Murray, so Simon beating Fed there is still no mean feat. However slam is totally different, I expect Fed to beat Simon if they meet at the AO R2.
