Former World No. 4 Juan Martin Del Potro is scheduled to make his long-awaited return to the ATP World Tour on Monday afternoon, set to take on sixth seed Feliciano Lopez. The players will kick off first-round play at the Medibank International.
(6) Feliciano Lopez vs. (WC) Juan Martin Del Potro
World No. 32 Feliciano Lopez holds a slender 3-2 edge against opening-round opponent Juan Martin Del Potro. The players met last season in Tokyo, where a round of 32 clash went to the Spaniard in straight sets.
Lopez looks to regroup after a round of 16 loss to Kevin Anderson in Brisbane. The 29-year-old veteran, set to contest his sixth Sydney event, has yet to win a match since making the final eight in 2005.
Del Potro, taking part in his Sydney debut with a wild card, returns to competition for the first time since October. The 2009 US Open champion has played just three tournaments in the last year, having sustained a serious right wrist injury in early 2010. The 22-year-old Argentine was forced to sit out the majority of the season after undergoing surgery in May.
Jeremy Chardy vs. Igor Andreev
World No. 45 Jeremy Chardy looks to break a 2-2 series tie with World No. 79 Igor Andreev on Monday. The Frenchman leads 2-1 on hard-court, which includes a 2009 round of 16 victory in Sydney.
Chardy will attempt to rebound after suffering a first-round defeat in Chennai. The 23-year-old completed a modest 2010 with a 26-29 record, having booked a handful of quarterfinal-round berths during the season. Monday marks his second appearance in Sydney.
Andreev aims for his first victory since making the final four in Kuala Lumpur. The 27-year-old Russian, who reached a career-high world No. 18 in 2008, advanced to the Sydney final in 2006 (lost to Blake).

I couldn't decide, so I wrote nothing. Lopez is not the match up any Del Potro supporter wants to see for his first effort back. He looked great in practice, but it's impossible to tell. Feeling good, he can beat Lopez in straights. Not feeling great? Well...we saw the effect in Tokyo.

Not watching the match atm, but so far, Lopez got the first set 7-6. I really want Del Potro to get back on track to how he played on 2009. Would promise for a very interesting 2011 season.

Well at least Delpo wins in the end. Good for him, now he can have more match plays before the AO.
